Private Lives by Noel Coward

Presented by Dionysus Theatre
7.30pm, Sunday 10th August 2025

“We were so ridiculously over in love.
Funny, wasn’t it?
Horribly funny…”

Elyot and Amanda — glamorous, rich, reckless… and divorced.

A surprise encounter on adjoining hotel balconies reignites their old flame, and they hurl themselves headlong into love once more, along with their newly married spouses, straight into chaos.

Noël Coward’s timeless comedy of manners, Private Lives, embarks on a UK tour in a dazzling new production from Dionysus Theatre.

Starring company favourites Lauren Whedbee and Robert Tremayne (in the roles created by Coward and Gertrude Lawrence in the 1930 premiere), they are joined by company treasure David Upcraft and exciting newcomer Kelly Verstappen, stepping straight into the storm of high society scandal and domestic drama.

Following her acclaimed direction of The Woman in White, founding member Vicky Newman returns to the director’s seat to bring Coward’s wit and whirlwind relationships to life.

As passion flares and tempers boil, Elyot and Amanda must decide: will they confront their true feelings, or accept that they may have made a pair of very mistaken marriages? They flee to Amanda’s apartment in Paris to rekindle their romance… but maybe, just maybe, this time it’ll end in a fairy-tale romance — not a vicious slanging match.
